The man who had been sold a non-existent stand by Mike Chimombe withdrew his case, leading to fraud charges against the Zanu PF politician being dropped.
Brian Marungamise told a Harare magistrate in an affidavit
that the matter had been settled out of court.
Chimombe’s lawyer said the charges were flimsy. “We had to
explain and the court accepted and has exonerated my client. He is no longer
facing any charges. Like what my client has always been saying, there was no
legal basis whatsoever to have him brought to court on these flimsy charges.
“These charges were, in my client’s view, trumped-up by
political rivalry and, like any lies, they had very short legs. It was meant to
tarnish my client’s good social standing and good reputation and the court has
accepted that and the charges that my client was facing were withdrawn before
plea.
