MDC Alliance leader, Nelson Chamisa has mocked plans to
erect a statue for Mbuya Nehanda saying he does not worship the dead.
He said during his online rally today :”it shows kuti vanhu
vari wired wrong. Unoda kuita zvinhu zvisina basa rese, wava kutiudza kuti
urikuda kuvaka mudhuri. Instead yekuti unge uchivaka mabuildings, urikufunga
zvekuvaka chimudhuri, statue, iwrong priorities. Isu we honour our heroes but
we will not worship the dead, he said to applause.
Mbuya Nehanda was hanged on April 27, 1902. Her memorial
statue is being erected at the intersection of Samora Machel Avenue and Julius
Nyerere Way.
