A Zimbabwean who overstayed his visa for 20 years was arrested last week in Boston, USA. He has been charged with felony rape, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement
(ICE) announced Monday.
Boston police arrested Mutare in December 2019 on felony rape charges. Mutare was indicted on those charges earlier this month, ICE said.
Alois Mutare, 42, was arrested by ICE’s Enforcement and
Removal Operations (ERO) as part of a wider crackdown on illegal aliens,
illegal reentrants and other immigration violators in the New England area.
ICE agents pounced on him outside a Boston courthouse. Mutare, legally entered the U.S. in
1999, but violated the terms of his admission and overstayed his visa by near
20 years, according to a press release from ICE.
Boston police arrested Mutare in December 2019 on felony rape charges. Mutare was indicted on those charges earlier this month, ICE said.
ICE agents arrested Mutare after he was released from a
local criminal court on March 4.
He remains in ICE custody pending immigration proceedings
before a federal immigration judge, ICE said.
