The Tuku
Memorial Concert failed at the weekend as the clutch of big guns could not fill
up the Glamis Arena in Harare.
Jah Prayzah,
Alick Macheso, Selmor Mtukudzi, Enzo, MiCasa all performed to a sparse crowd. The
promoter and the artists were left throwing mud at each other. Partson
Chimboza, of Chipaz Promotions, who were behind the show, said the Friday gig
opened their eyes and taught them a few lessons.
He had to
contend with some artists who demanded hefty fees and in turn he put up high
gate charges which, in the current climate, few could afford. Virtually all the
artists never bothered to promote the show on their social media platforms.
Winky D pulled
out from the show citing poor communication. He was not the only one who was
affected by poor communication, as other musicians, including Selmor’s
management, were also reportedly kept in the dark on various issues until the
last minute.
The performances
were not great on the day and the promoter was left counting the losses
