Villagers in Goromonzi have risen up against a Chinese
company that was seeking to evict them after getting a licence to blast the
Zimbiru Mountain.
The community called for a meeting that was attended by the MP
for their area, Energy Mutodi who said the Chinese firm, Geo Global had bribed their way into the area.
The District Administrator, Chief Chinamhora, several headmen
and village heads and the Geo Global officials who had been invited failed to
show up.
The community is now demanding that all blasting must cease forthwith. If the Chinese continued with their work, they will vandalise the equipment. They want a copy of the Environmental Impact Assessment that was done and the minutes of the council resolution that gave the Chinese the right to mine at Zimbiru.
