Some hungry patients at Neshuro District Hospital in
Mwenezi are eating sadza with sugar as a food shortage bites.
The Masvingo Mirror reports that the Masvingo Provincial Administrator,
Fungai Mbetsa was shocked at the desperate situation at the hospital. A meeting
held at Neshuro Growth Point heard that the crisis at the hospital which is the
biggest referral centre in the district is not only limited to food but there
is a water crisis, shortages of medication and infrastructure including the
perimeter fence that is falling down.
The hospital, Nyikadzino Mavhundu said the institute gets
funds for running costs from patients’ fees and the charges are now so low that
the fees cannot meet the needs including buying fuel and food.
He insisted that patients were only served sugar as relish
once.
