Our infrastructure has been hit hard by Cyclone Idai. Though the disaster has not claimed any lives within our town, dozens of shelters have been destroyed. Our road network has been run down and most areas in our suburbs are inaccessible. The threat of disease outbreaks is looming: A 40metre 300mm diameter steel water line that draws water from Bangazani Dam to the pump house was blown off by the storm. This means water supply is effectively cut off for the whole town. The water distribution network has been eroded in most parts of the town and there will be extensive investment required to do rehabilitation works. Some sewer pipes, especially those cutting across damaged roads have ripped open, releasing raw sewer and draining it into rivers and gulleys. We are in desperate need for support.
