A men netball league has been launched in Zimbabwe. A
tournament was held at the weekend at Stodart Hall Mbare Netball Complex in
Harare.
Zimbabwe Netball Association President Letticia Chipandu
says the men by launching a new league are challenging stereotypical
representations of playing netball, a sport originally designed specifically
for women, and historically dominated by women.
“The men’s teams are expected to gather at one venue for
matches and battle it out for honours in an effort to cut costs and ensure all
teams take part in netball without worrying about home and away fixtures,” said
Chipandu.
Although the sport is in its infancy for men, Harare has
Sparrows and Rangers, Platinum from Zvishavane, Zimplats from Mhondoro-Ngezi
while Mutare and Kwekwe also have teams.
