Chimurenga guru, Thomas Mapfumo could have performed at the Harare International Festival of the Arts (Hifa) that began yesterday.
But negotiations broke down after he asked for what Hifa officials described as a hefty pay cheque.
“Oh yes! I wanted him (Mapfumo) to appear on the opening night but the figure he wanted to be paid was too much and we obviously couldn’t afford,” Manuel Bagorro, the founder and artistic director of Hifa said.
Mukanya has since left for the USA but has promised to return very soon for more shows on home soil.
