Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich’s UK visa expired last month
and was unable to attend the FA Cup triumph at Wembley.
Abramovich is in the process of renewing his visa, which is
a standard procedure but has taken longer than usual. There have been no
indications from the Home Office that the visa will be refused and no
explanation for the delay.
Asked about the visa, Security Minister Ben Wallace said:
"We do not routinely comment on individual cases."
Abramovich's office said it does not discuss personal
matters with the media. Reports suggest his investor visa expired three weeks ago.
The delay comes amid increased diplomatic tensions between
London and Moscow after the poisoning of former Russian spy Sergei Skripal in
Salisbury.
