The flea market near Charge Office has now been closed. The
vendors said they were not given any notice of eviction.
Police national spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner
Charity Charamba said evictions were done without notice due to security issues
considering the proximity of the police camp.
“The affected group should approach the authorities at
Harare Central Police Station for further clarifications on the matter,” she
said. Vendors are now appealing to the government for help.
The evictions come at a time when the vendors association boss, Sten Zvorwadza has pledged his support for the Mnangagwa administration.
